As a co-management regime, the NPC has members appointed by Nunavut Tunngavik Inc., the three Regional Inuit Associations (Qikiqtani Inuit Association, Kivalliq Inuit Association, and Kitikmeot Inuit Association), the Government of Canada and Government of Nunavut. Our current Commissioners include:
Joshua has been an NPC Commissioner since October 2018. He is Mayor of his home community of Pond Inlet, has served on many boards and was a Member of Executive Council, Diocese of the Arctic.
Married with six grown children and several grandchildren, he has extensive experience with economic, environmental and sustainability issues facing the North. He has interacted at a senior level with many government bodies and Inuit organizations.
Joshua is a currently a board member of the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board and a Member of Quillik Energy Corp.
He has held many positions in Pond Inlet, including Regional Supervisor at the Department of Justice, Housing Manager and Finance Officer.
Shawn started his career in public practice in 1989 with a small regional firm in Southwestern Ontario. During his career building years, Shawn developed a strong desire to help build capacity in the accounting and finance field.
In 2000, Shawn and his family moved to Iqaluit, Nunavut where he became a partner in Lester Landau. Through involvement with many Inuit in financial positions and Inuit organizations in general, he noticed that there was always a desire for skill improvement and confidence building. To help individuals develop he obtained his CAFM in 2009 and became a founding member of AFOA Nunavut in 2016.
Shawn has always believed in giving back to the community. Through the years he has been involved in his local church and as a volunteer board member of several organizations including the Iqaluit Chamber of Commerce and CPA NWT/NU.
Patricia was born in Churchill Manitoba and currently Lives in Whale-Cove.
Patricia has worked from Isaatik Co-op, Hamlet of Whale-Cove, and GN - Home and Community care for over 6 years plus.
She is now currently working for MLA John Main - Arviat North/Whale-Cove.
She was also a board member the local HTO, DEA, and Housing Authority, and was also a board member for Nunavut Impact Review Board from 2007 to 2009.
Patricia loves to go out hunting and camping .
Jimmy Arqviq has been a Commissioner since March 19, 2025. He moved to Gjoa Haven in 1986 and has worked for the hamlet since 1995 in building maintenance and as a clean energy ambassador, where he has championed solar power. He also worked in mining for several years.
He has served on various committees on the job and is involved with Elders and youth at an Inuit science camp. He is also a participant in the Indigenous Clean Energy Network.
Jimmy enjoys spending time with his two children and four grandchildren. He makes tools and hunting equipment from wood, muskox horns and cast iron in his spare time.
Ben Kovic joined the Commission board on March 12, 2025. He spent two decades working as a conservation officer across Nunavut and was chair of the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board for 11 years. He is still involved with the Hunters and Trappers Organization.
As a youth, Ben spent four years in Churchill, Manitoba, where he learned several trades like sheet metal working and car repair. His father was a biologist who studied sea bird colonies and Ben worked at banding geese.
He is an avid hunter and enjoys carving and painting.
Charlie has been an Alternate member of the NPC since 2011. He currently serves as the Mayor of Kangiqsujuaq. Charlie is from Wakeham Bay, Nunavik.
